August starts HIGH and ends LOW - one of the most dramatic in-month crowd transitions of the year. Late August (Aug 23-31) is one of the most underrated times to visit as most schools are back in session.
| Week | Dates | Crowd Level | Reason | Tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Aug 1-8 | High 7 | Early August summer | Still very crowded. Lightning Lane recommended throughout. |
| Week 2 | Aug 9-15 | Moderate 6 | Schools starting | Some schools return early. Noticeable but small crowd drop. |
| Week 3 | Aug 16-22 | Moderate 5 | Mid-August | Meaningful drop as more schools return. Increasingly pleasant. |
| Week 4 | Aug 23-29 | Low 4 | Most schools back | Dramatic drop. Late August is genuinely underrated - comparable to late April. |
| Week 5 | Aug 30-31 | Low 4 | Labor Day approaching | Still LOW. Enjoy it before Labor Day weekend bumps crowds. |
All parks benefit from the late August crowd drop, but Hollywood Studios sees one of the biggest proportional improvements - from summer madness to genuinely short lines for Star Wars and Toy Story Land.
Late August (Aug 23-31) is a seriously underrated window. Many families don't realize how dramatically crowds drop once school starts. This period rivals late April for pleasant conditions.
Don't go in early August expecting low crowds. The transition from HIGH to LOW happens gradually. Before Aug 15, parks are still very busy.
September is even better. If you can hold out one more week, September crowds drop to LOW (2) after Labor Day. The best is just around the corner.
