Holiday decorations are up; crowds haven't peaked. Excellent window.

Week 2Dec 7-13High 7Mid-December buildup

Crowds building. Still manageable with rope drop and Lightning Lane.

Week 3Dec 14-20High 8Pre-Christmas surge

School breaks starting. Parks getting very crowded. Book everything.

Week 4Dec 21-27Extreme 10Christmas week

Busiest week of the year. Parks at absolute capacity.

Week 5Dec 28-31Extreme 10New Year's Eve

Equally extreme. New Year's Eve at Magic Kingdom is spectacular but brutal.

Which Park Is Best in December?

EPCOT during the Festival of Holidays is the single most beautiful theme park experience of the year - the World Showcase decorations are extraordinary. Magic Kingdom's Christmas decorations and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party are also exceptional.

December Tips

1

Early December (Dec 1-10) is the best window. You get the full holiday atmosphere at MODERATE to HIGH crowds rather than EXTREME.

2

Christmas week (Dec 21-27) requires military planning. Book Lightning Lane the morning it opens. Book dining 60 days out. Arrive 30 minutes before official opening.

3

New Year's Eve at a theme park is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But go in knowing it's EXTREME. The fireworks are worth it if you rope drop early and manage expectations.
